Mentoring Series: The Role of a Mentee

Have you been a mentee?

Can you see yourself as wanting to be mentored in certain stages of your life?

What new experiences are you interested in pursuing where you may be a mentee?

Entering the role of a mentee allows for the opportunity to learn and grow in a field that may be foreign to you. It may be a bit overwhelming to know where to start when looking to be a mentee. There are people who want to help and are willing to mentor. In this GET YOUR MIND ON, we complete our journey in the mentoring series by learning about the role of a mentee and how to go about a successful mentor-mentee relationship.

No One is Talking to the Mentees | Victoria Black | TEDxTexasStateUniversity

When was the last time you asked yourself, am I mentorable? This talk invites the audience to assess and reexamine their own mentorability as they engage in everyday developmental relationships. Victoria Black is the Director for PACE Mentoring at Texas State University and a 3rd year doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership at UT Austin. Her research interests include college access for first-generation students, first-year student success, working mothers in student affairs, and the concept of mentorability. She has shared mentorability across multiple messages inspiring others on how to help enhance their mentoring partnerships by examining their role and responsibility as a mentee. Originally from La Joya, TX, she received a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas San Antonio and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance from Texas State University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
